Stylish new eatery Black Dove will be flying into Shawlands this Spring courtesy of award winning chef Chris Rouse.
Chris Rouse, 30, has been working as Head Chef in Celino's for the past five years where he has scooped the Italian Awards' prestigious 'Bistro of the Year' five times and 'Scottish Chef of the Year 2014'.
He has also secured a spot in the finals for the Italian Award's 'Best in Britain' category which is being held in Manchester this November.
"I have been cooking for 12 years and started my commis chef job in Andiamos Hamilton, before progressing onto Nardini's and five years at Celino's," Chris said.
"It has always been my dream to open my own restaurant and after winning Best Chef last year, this has given me the final push I needed to make it happen.
"I have two sons and my wife is expecting twin girls on March 19 right before we open so it's going to be all go!"
Following his success over the years, Chris will embark on his own culinary venture in early May; Black Dove.
Shawlands' newest place to eat and drink will be based at 67 Kilmarnock Road offering a "brand new concept to the south side".
"I used to live in the south when I was a boy and over the years I have seen a decline in the standard of food available," said Chris.
"Now I hope to bring back the quality of food that was once here that everyone near and far will enjoy.
"We looked in various places in Glasgow but as I am from the south side and used to regularly visit the village, I decided it would be best here."
Although Glasgow-born Chris is famed for his Italian cuisine, he will be offering something completely different at Black Dove.
There will be a contemporary twist to his menu, focussing on mini dishes, fresh seafood and a new style of early morning eating; small plates breakfast.
"I cannot completely stray away from Italian food though as it has been the key to my success over the years," said Chris.
"However, this is not going to be a typical Italian restaurant and will be a completely unique place to dine in Shawlands.
"In terms of the price range, you will be buying silver and getting gold. We want you to get as much as possible for what you pay for."
There will be an exciting cocktail and drinks menu brimming with fine wines, fizzes and craft beers courtesy of Black Dove's exclusive cocktail master Scott Langford.
The interior will see beautiful handmade wooden furniture and individually crafted ornaments, while using high end crockery for the dishes.
Chris said: "This is the start of a long journey of multiple restaurants and Black Dove bars perhaps expanding out of the UK - we have a huge business plan.
"We are spending around £225k to totally redo the venue as the building is a mess but we are going to make it look amazing.
"We will be creating 25 job positions with this restaurant and I will be taking on two apprentice chefs.
"I will be teaching them all I know which I think is good for young school leavers in south side.
"I'm not looking for the next Jamie Oliver but perhaps the next Chris Rouse?
"We are confident that Black Dove, along with all the exciting new and established bars and eateries, can help put Shawlands back on the map with great drink, better food and fantastic customers."
